Buur-illiant! (Armin Van Buuren at KL Live)

[AS PUBLISHED IN MALAY MAIL]

A FOUR-YEAR absence in these parts of the world was not a second too long for Armin van Buuren.
The Dutch megastar made a comeback like no other at KL Live last Friday, pulling over 2,500 people whom he left begging for more.
Trance — a genre dead in the water, far removed from the popularity of EDM, house and trap?
Clearly dance music fans aren’t familiar with its power.
AVB himself confirmed to Malay Mail earlier this year: “Trance is coming back. For me it was never gone.”
His Embrace Tour this year and last turned heads not the least for being vinyl-only, but for a five-hour set that challenged ravers to get wrapped into a whole new, lengthy trance experience.
Granted, it segued through a number of subgenres that delved into progressive, pop and blues.
Friday night, however, was something else.
Intense, a fully-loaded two-hour show was AVB’s first here since the massive ASOT600 The Expedition tour in 2013.
It showcased the legend of the decks with a power-packed set of pure trance.
A pioneer of the genre, he kicked off with the single You Are, featuring Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano.
Fan favourite Great Spirit and classic Dash Berlin tuneShelter were also featured.
Needless to say the audience were thrilled.
Paramount to party were screen displays that made the ride all the more immersive before AVB capped his man-of-the-hour status by passionately waving the Jalur Gemilang to the crowd in a glorious exit.
Local DJ Mister Ariffin and homegrown trance queen Lissa Qash supported the show.
