Sick love story
By Jordan Barnes
NOTHING beats a French romance!
But this may just top the lot.
The only tale more sensational than the rise of Emmanuel Macron, the front runner for the French presidency, is how he pulled his missus.
Say hello to the elegant blonde Brigitte Trogneux, 63.
How did they meet?
At private Jesuit school, Amiens in 1992.
How sweet! Were they classmates?
Le nonsense! She was his drama teacher.
Macron was 15 when he seduced foxy Brigitte, set to become France’s First Lady, or First Cougar, should he enter office.
► At a time he was telling peers he would one day become president, Macron was performing theatre for Brigitte.
► She was married with three children.
► They began to meet every Friday for extracurricular, ahem, studies.
“Little by little, I was won over by his intelligence,” said Brigitte
Talk about drama!
► He was banished to Paris at 16 and vowed to return and marry her.
The Trogneux family didn’t approve:
► One local journalist remembered their love affair some years later as “pure scandal”.
Well, it is every schoolboy’s dream after all …
October 2007
► They married in Le Touquet, 21 months after Brigitte, then 54, divorced banker Andre Louis Auziere. Macron was 29.
True Romeo heartthrob Macron wrote of their marriage in his book Revolution published last November:
“An official consecration of love that was at first clandestine, often hidden and misunderstood by many,” said Macron.
They had to conquer all:
► And it seems the chemistry is a triumph.
► A pair of intellectuals, the up-and-coming power couple seen hand-in-hand and sharing a smooch at the voting polls have the public’s approval.
On top of that:
► Brigitte is critical to Macron’s rise, as campaign adviser Marc Ferracci put it:
“He wouldn’t have been able to embark on this adventure without her. Her presence is essential,” said Ferracci, who was present at their wedding.
“We don’t have a classic family, that’s an undeniable reality,” said Brigitte.
You can say that, again!
